Longer days

Bring ….

Spectacular sunsets

Creating ….

Curious cloud formations

Constantly changing the colours the patterns and the silhouettes

Nothing stays the same

Nothing can stay the same

Change is us

Change is all around us

The choice between fear and love

To quote the late great Bill Hicks

I was reminded of this powerful quote while walking the dog and taking sunset/silhouette photographs just now …..

“Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.”

The personal is indeed political

Ventured out to the cinema last night to watch the Trainspotting sequel referred to as T2.

First there is opportunity then there is betrayal.

The monologue is suitably updated to suit 21st century Britain and the whole of the developed world.

Choose life

Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares
Choose looking up old flames, wishing you’d done it all differently
And choose watching history repeat itself
Choose your future
Choose reality TV, slut shaming, revenge porn
Choose a zero hour contract, a two hour journey to work
And choose the same for your kids, only worse, and smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug made in somebody’s kitchen
And then… take a deep breath
You’re an addict, so be addicted
Just be addicted to something else
Choose the ones you love
Choose your future
Choose life”

In a sea of data and a floodplain awash with information any notion of relevance is rooted in personal interpretation.

Round and round we go happily skipping along to the soundtrack we choose for the journey.  We do what we believe we must to do as we negotiate the real and the absurd.

We do this while monsters in suits rebrand everything we ever knew.

We do this while enemies with horns and tails are created at every opportunity.

When we find the time to stop we realise …..

The personal is indeed political.

Keeping an eye on a changing world in no particular order.

I may need a plan for this.

I find it hard to make a plan and even harder to stick to one.

The world around us changes fast.

Sometimes too fast to catch the moment.

So much to hand.

So many things to use.

Too little time to imagine.

Even less time to create.

The brutal playground is ours.
